The numbers are estimates

Every price here is computed from sales that other people made, in public, somewhere else. It is a measurement with error bars, and Foilscope shows you those: how many sales it saw, over what window, and how confident that makes it. When there is not enough evidence, it says so and shows nothing — it never fills a gap with a zero or with somebody else's guess.

Use it to think with. Do not use it as a valuation for insurance, tax, a sale or a purchase without checking the market yourself. Nothing on this site is investment advice, and no one here is your broker.

This is a beta, and it behaves like one

Things will change, break and occasionally be wrong. Your portfolio is backed up nightly and is treated as the most important data in the system, but a beta is a beta: keep your own record of anything you could not bear to lose. If something does go wrong, the feedback button is the fastest way to reach the person who can fix it.

Your account

• One account per person. Your passkey is yours; do not lend it.
• Pick a username that is not pretending to be somebody else, and not something you would mind being seen next to your feedback.
• There are generous limits on how much one account can store — thousands of cards, hundreds of alert rules. They exist so one person cannot slow the service down for everybody, and the app tells you plainly when you reach one.
• An account that is clearly a script — mass sign-ups, scraping, hammering the API — will be closed without ceremony.

Your data is yours

What you record here belongs to you. We do not sell it, publish it, or use it to compute anybody else's prices. See Privacy for exactly what is stored.

What the site itself is

The Foilscope name, design and software are ours. Card names, images and set data belong to their publishers; grading populations belong to the graders; sale prices belong to the marketplaces that published them. Foilscope is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Bandai, PSA, Beckett, eBay or TCGplayer.

Please do not scrape the site. There is a rate limit and it will refuse you; if you want the data for something interesting, ask instead.

No warranty, and the honest reason

Foilscope is provided as it is, with no guarantee that it will be available, correct, or continue to exist. That is the standard clause, and here it is also simply true: this is a free tool run on one machine by one person. If it ever becomes something you should be able to rely on, this paragraph will change first.
